Beautiful Boy
My "beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful boy"
(to quote the song).
With friend, Mark Lotspeich.
We didn't have a copy of this photo until dear friends sent it (today). Aloha, son.
Love is Action
The Love of God (that is, that which the BIBLE calls Love) is a LOVE that is ALWAYS manifested IN ACTION. It is ALWAYS dynamic, ALWAYS giving, ALWAYS self-sacrificing, ALWAYS other-oriented (see I Corinthians 13:1-8; I John 3:16-18; 4:7-19). “God so loved the world THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY-BEGOTTEN SON.”
“Hereby perceive we the love of God; because HE LAID DOWN HIS LIFE FOR US; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.”
“My little children, let us not love in word,
Immersion
Thrown into the deep end at our Deaf Church the past two Sundays.
On Sunday evenings, the ladies and men split up for separate prayer and Bible study. There are normally at least three professional (hearing) interpreters among the ladies who can "voice" for Karen.
And most Sunday evenings, there's at least one guy in the men's group who can voice for me. But my good friend, Richard, was delayed tonight, so, for the first half hour, it was me, duly dazzled by the lightning qu
“Redeem the Time”
These things have become altogether too commonplace. Horribly, absurdly commonplace.
May we who KNOW the consolation of Christ (Philippians 2:1; II Corinthians 1:3-4) stand up to the plate, take in the full gravity of the times and show the compassion of the Living God to those touched by yet another unspeakable tragedy.
And may it remind us that it is not just about our own "unalienable rights" to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,", but there are fellow creatures
Trusting God
There's most definitely a balance.
I confess I am a worrier by nature and was known to be "overprotective" with my kids (just carrying on the gene from my own Mom?)
I remember so many outings when my kids were little, and they would want to join others (sometimes young adult college students) in activities that to me seemed to be perilous. Co-workers would ask (I'm sure with the best intentions!); "Ernie, you're a missionary! You're trusting the Lord with your life and minist
Times of Trouble
In times of trouble and uncertainty.
'God Knows' THE GATE OF THE YEAR
By Minnie Louise Haskins And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year:
“Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.”
And he replied:
“Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God.
That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.” So I went forth, and finding the Hand of God, trod gladly into the night.
And He led me towards the hills and t
Rewards!
Something we need to be reminded of DAILY.
Eternal Life is a FREE GIFT to every single person who acknowledges their sin and places their trust in Christ alone and His finished work on Calvary's cross.
But, in addition, the Bible teaches God seriously desires to REWARD the faithful service of those born-again believers!
And He regards these rewards to be perfectly legitimate and acceptable motivation for endeavoring to live a life of victory (if you doubt, please give due

My son, Abel, in ‘Nam
My son, Abel, in ‘Nam.
This photo just triggered images in my mind, as it may for others my age.
How subtly reminiscent of so many other shots my generation has seen of fit young men in ‘Nam in decades past.
Can’t you just see a different colored helmet (maybe camouflage) on his head, and a young John McCain (or John Rambo) at his side, just out of the photo (maybe a chopper in the distance)?
Thank God those days are behind us, eh?
I bet you can’t even detect “the smell
