"If we aren’t to ask God for help in overcoming sin, nor for patience, nor love, nor self-control—knowing that God HAS dealt fully and finally with sin and its source in Christ, and we have been united with Him in His death, and even in His resurrection and ascension, and we have been granted His resurrection life, to be taken and walked in by faith— Then how are we to pray regarding ourselves?
There may be many ways you cast your cares upon Him and speak with Him, but let me point you to one way in which you might pray. As Paul prays for believers, he asks, not that they would be given patience or love or self-control, for he knows that they have already been given “every spiritual blessing in Christ” because God has placed them “IN Christ” “WHO became for us righteousness and sanctification” (Eph 1:3, 1 Cor 1:30)”, instead he asks that God would grant them a “spirit of wisdom and revelation in the KNOWLEDGE of Him... that you may KNOW... what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead” that they “may be able to COMPREHEND with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—to KNOW the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge; that you may be filled with the fullness of God” (from Eph 1 & 3).
Ask God to show you Christ—in more of His fullness, that you may know Him and all that He is for you now; that He might, by His Spirit, illuminate the Scriptures to you as you look on Christ and all you have in Him in The Word. Ask Him to help you understand the depths of His love, and the riches of His grace toward you in Christ, and ask Him to help you comprehend how you might walk in all that He has made available to you in Christ. Ask Him to renew your mind as you meditate on the greatness of His power towards us who believe—the same power by which He raised Christ from the dead, available to us now who have been “raised with Christ”, that you might walk by faith and experience Christ—His resurrection life as your life!" - Deb Bullington
