Intimately Know God

I wish Bible believers would stop knocking the pursuit of a good, thorough knowledge of the Bible.

How else are we to know God's will?

It's naive to think it comes intuitively, when God says, "My ways are NOT your ways," and "There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death," and "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and LEAN NOT UNTO THINE OWN UNDERSTANDING." We exchange "Christmas lists" and "Birthday lists" and have "Bridal Registries" so we don't waste our time and money getting gifts that have no chance of pleasing the loved one on the receiving end. In that realm, at least, we know it's futile to assume our instincts will lead us to the right choices. James chapter one says "Be doers of the Word." But don't fail to observe it FIRST says, "RECEIVE with meekness the engrafted Word." It seems to me that airplane needs BOTH wings to stay airborne! Jesus says, "If a man love me, He will keep my words," AND . . . "If you CONTINUE (abide, remain) in My Word, THEN are ye My disciples indeed, and ye shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall make you free." I know it's very possible to "know" a lot of Bible verses and live a carnal, fruitless life (I've known atheists and real, live witches who could quote more scripture than most Christians). But God still gave us this big, thick WONDERFUL Book, and, regardless of what WE may say, HE clearly says He wants us to know it thoroughly and intimately. Witches and atheists notwithstanding, God, Himself, tells us it is the indispensable key to a rich, fruitful, God-honoring life (Psalm 1:1-3; John 15:7; I Peter 2:2; II Timothy 3:16-17). In fact, He claims it is the vehicle HE has given, not only for knowing His will, but for knowing His Son (Philippians 3:10; John 8:25; Revelation 19:10). That old Book has more enemies than any printed materials ever produced. Don't inadvertently join ranks with that motley crew by discouraging people from pursuing its contents "as hid treasures" (Proverbs 2:1-4). Colossians 1:9-11; 3:16; II Timothy 2:15; Job 23:12, etc.
