Pre-Reformation Biblical Faith

John Milton's Ode to the Ancient Waldensians. Many do not realize the Waldensian church claims a lineage that goes back centuries before the Reformation, maintaining the Biblical faith and the text of scripture in their valley refuge since ancient times, a fact attested by Milton, himself, as well as Oliver Cromwell, Theodore Beza, William Farel, and many others.

"On the Late Massacre in Piedmont" Written by the author of "Paradise Lost" upon hearing of the massacre of Waldensian Bible-believers by the soldiers of the Duke of Savoy, Charles Emmanuel II in 1655

"Avenge, O Lord, thy slaughtered saints, whose bones Lie scattered on the Alpine mountains cold, E'en them who kept Thy Truth so pure of old, When all OUR fathers worshipped stocks and stones; Forget not! In Thy book record their groans Who were Thy sheep and in their ancient fold Slain by bloody Piedmontese that rolled Mother with infant down the rocks! Their moans The vales redoubled to the hills, and they To Heaven. Their martyred blood and ashes sow O'er all the Italian fields where still doth sway The triple tyrant; that from these may grow A hundredfold, who having learnt Thy way EARLY may flee the Babylonian woe."
