Homesick for Heaven

I LOVE the following from Levi Lusko's amazing book, "Through the Eyes of a Lion!" Lusko is talking about how all of us human critters are "hardwired for Heaven." God, he says, has inwardly wired us to feel a continual "homesickness" for a place we've never been; and that homesickness is "the ache we can't shake," though we try, try, try to fill the void with addictions and all kinds of diversions that have absolutely no hope of ever really satisfying. I've been quoting a lot of the "older dudes," like J. B. Stoney and others, on our Heavenly calling (Hebrews 3:1). I'm delighted to add this "younger dude" to the ranks of likemindedness, as well: "For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life" (II Corinthians 5:4). "To GROAN is to sigh with anxiety or to yearn. It's a heavyhearted moan. Groaning is the soundtrack to our homesickness (for Heaven!), a mechanism to keep us from settling down. It's there to keep our hearts set on pilgrimage and our feet moving forward. It's caffeine to our souls to prevent us from being lulled into sleep. It keeps us alert. Focused on our (Heavenly) calling (Hebrews 3:1). Laying up treasure IN HEAVEN." -- Levi Lusko; "Through the Eyes of a Lion," page 132 I do love how that young dude can write! (The only issue I would raise is Pastor Lusko speaks of heaven as a "future nostalgia;" something our hearts long for exclusively as our FUTURE dwelling place. Stoney and the others I've quoted would point to the Bible's emphasis on enjoying Heaven as our PRESENT abode, RIGHT NOW, by faith in scriptures such as Ephesians 1:3; 2:6; Philippians 3:20; Colossians 3:1-4, etc.)
